The area of North Wales surrounding our hotel is classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty, containing stunning countryside, historic buildings and castles. All around are canals, rivers, coastline and mountains providing the habitat in which wildlife of all species abounds.
North Wales is a spectacular part of the UK with something for everyone of any age at all times of the year.
This beautiful natural environment is ideal for all kinds of outdoor activity. A cluster of excellent golf courses surrounds us, the River Dee supports salmon fishing and canoeing and the walks and cycle routes available for all ages and abilities are breathtaking.
The area hosts two renowned international music festivals, one in the picturesque market town of Ruthin and the largest in Llangollen, which takes place in the first week of July, attract stars from all over the world, such as Pavarotti, and Placida Domingo. Whether you are planning a short break or a full 2-week holiday there is so much to explore and everything is within easy reach.
The work of Thomas Telford is seen at it’s best with the Llangollen Canal and the famous 1000 foot long Ponycysyllte aqueduct passing high above the valley. For those interested in
industrial history there is a great deal to see throughout North Wales most of which has been well
preserved.
The famous Horseshoe Pass offers stunning views over a large area and is close to the famous National Trust properties of Plas Newydd and Erddig Hall plus a great selection of well-preserved castles. Horse riding is a popular way to explore the forestry tracks and husky dog trails are also becoming more popular. Organised shooting is also available in season.
The Blue Planet Aquarium is a new popular attraction and a visit to Clwyd Theatre Cymru is recommended or for the braver among you Deeside Ice Rink. Offa’s Dyke and The National Ski Jumping Centre are nearby and just a short car journey takes you to the historical city of Chester which is packed with things to do and see with easy accessibility even for the disabled.
Lake Bala, which is the largest natural body of water in Wales, caters for all kinds of water sports. You can walk or take the railway to the summit of Mount Snowdon, take a trip on one of the
local steam railways, go down an old slate mine, enjoy a lazy trip down the Llangollen canal on a horse-drawn boat, visit swallow falls, canoe on the River Dee or fish for fresh salmon.
